FAQ

1) What is HDMI?

Many questions about HDMI, specifications and related questions can be found on the HDMI organization website found below:

http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/faq.aspx

2) What is the difference between premium line and consumer line?

For HDMI, our premium line contains silver as a conductor plating, rather than tin found in the consumer line. Unless cables are being run long lengths the difference is negligible.

3) What is AWG and which AWG is right for my purpose?

AWG stands for American Wire Gauge and is a standardized gauge system. The AWG number is the number of times the die machine goes around a wire. Therefore, a higher AWG number, implies a thinner cable.

We recommend most home users use a 28 AWG, as a thicker cable is not required. For any connection greater than 10 or 15 feet, a thicker gauge, 24 or 22, is recommended. Thicker gauge cables (lower AWG) will reduce the chances of signal loss over the larger distances.

4) What is CL2 Rating?

CL2 (UL) relates to the fire resistance level in the cables, as specified by CSA in the USA. The equivalent rating in Canada is FT4.

5) What is Net Jacket?

The net jacket is essentially a jacket or coating on the cable which improves rigidity and makes threading through walls easier.

6) What is a Ferrite Core?

Ferrite cores help to reduce the electronic noise caused by electronics in close proximity. It suppresses noise acting to interfere with the signal contained within the cable.

7) What is the difference between RG-59 and RG-6?

RG-59 and RG-6 are composed of the same components with the exception of the gauge of wire. RG-59 is usually composed of AWG 20-22 where RG-6 is composed of 18 AWG. RG-6 is normally thicker than RG-59.

8) What is HDCP?

HDCP stands for High-bandwidth digital content protection. It is a technology used by content providers to protect their media from being illegally distributed. AG Cables' cables are HDCP compliant.

9) Which DVI is correct for me?

DVI-I carries both analog and digital signals, in both single and dual link.

DVI-A carries only analog signals. There is no dual link option.

DVI-D carries digital signal only, single or dual link.

10) Why are our cables so cheap, and are they as good as more expensive brand name cables?

We keep our cables low in cost by making direct connections to our suppliers, eliminating the middle man. This allows us to keep our overhead costs low, and pass those savings on to our customers.

Our cables are just as high quality as more expensive brands. The construction, materials and reliability are equivalent to those cables found in retail stores, and we have the warranty to back it up!
